Chimp Tracking Tours

Chimpanzee Tracking (trekking) is an experience in which tourists, with the aid of a guide through the forest, follow the track left by the chimpanzee community and when they encounter them, spend some time (usually an hour) with chimps exploring their cultures.

Chimpanzees are closely related to humans with almost 98% DNA; they live in large groups of around 20-70 individuals and multiple family groups with one male alpha. The Alpha male is the highest-ranking male who controls the community and preserves order during arguments, in chimpanzee culture, male chimps usually remain within their groups where they are born while females often migrate to neighboring communities after reaching puberty, Chimpanzees consume a range of foods such as fruits and plants that man eats and the fruit of the fig

The weight of a well-grown male chimpanzee is 40-70 kg, while the weight of an adult female chimpanzee is 25-50 kg. The life expectancy of chimpanzees is between 40 and 60 years.

Uganda is Africa’s best-known trekking place for gorillas and chimpanzees safaris. The most exciting locations for chimpanzee tracking among others in Uganda are the Kibale Forest National Park and the Budongo Forest.
The Kibale Forest National Park, located in western Uganda, is believed to be the home of chimpanzees, close relatives of humans. It provides a diverse variety of habitats and one of the few remaining expanses to include lowland and montane forests are in Kibale. It preserves the last extensive expanse of pre-montane forest in eastern Africa.

Kibale National Park is an important destination for eco-tourism and safari activities, famous for its population of chimpanzees and 12 other primate species. The park has one of the largest levels of primate diversity and concentration in Africa. As well as many species of central African monkeys, including the Uganda mangabey, the Ugandan red colobus, and the L’Hoest’s monkey, the park preserves several well-studied, habitual populations of common chimpanzees. The black-and-white colobus and the blue monkey are also other primates present in the park.

The full-day Chimpanzee Habituation Experience (CHEX) follows a chimp group that is experiencing habituation. You get to see theme do a number of their daily activities that include; eating, copulating, hunting, breastfeeding, sleeping, roaming, and grooming before it is time to construct new
Chimpanzee Habituation experience costs $220 per person and goes for a full day. While a normal chimpanzee tracking goes for $150. The activity is conducted by researchers and the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s Rangers/Guides. In our chimpanzee tracking tour, these rates are included so there is no need to worry about them.
